Senegal is a West African country with a population of 13 million people and a life expectancy at birth of 60 years (males) and 62 years (females). The National Health Plan 2009-2018 (PNDS) incorporates the priorities set in the National Strategy for Social and Economic Development as the basis for overall development in health and beyond. The PNDS, the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), and the Annual Work Plans (AWP) take into account the operational plans of the Local Government Health Authorities. To ensure implementation of the strategic priorities, the Ministry of Health works closely with various national and international actors, the latter being coordinated largely through UHC2030. In terms of health financing, WHO provided technical support and facilitated the process of validating the National Health Financing Strategy for UHC in 2017 and focuses now on implementing set targets towards UHC.
